my new MacPro is great on OS X 10.4.7
however the trash and only the trash as i can see it opens always in column view not list as list is the default view i always use
when I change trash to list, close and open again its again in column
any way to change this? is it a BuG?
BTW Ive never figured out how to tell the OS to always open any new folders in list view not icon view w the sidebar on the left
any way to fix this too?
cheers

So you want every other window apart from the trash to open in column view? There's an always open in column view somewhere in the preferences, check that it isn't selected.

What if once the Trash window is opened, you press Command+J and choose the kind of view aimed to such window, doesn't that help?
Just choose List at the Finder window and then with Command+J choose such view option as the one aimed to apply to all windows.
seanc is right, go to Finder menu --> Preferences, the option to always open windows in column view is there.

thanks for these tips
the trash now seems to reopen in list view which is what I want
the other issue is new folders always open in icon view withthe sidebar on teh left with netwwork etc etc
id prefer just to open in list with no sidebar. then I can click on the upper right button if I want to see other folders, network etc
don't know how to do that

Close all open Finder windows. Open a new Finder window and set it up the way you want your default view to be, but don't select any content in the window (i.e. folders or files). Close the window. From now on, any new windows you open in the Finder should default to that view.

new finder seemed like a great tip but:
new folder still open in icon view with the sidebar on the left
would *****love***** for them to just open in list and nothing but list
