Hey guys,

I'm thinking of getting a Mac Pro but then I thought it was a better idea to get it in the spring when Mac OX Leopard is released and it is a bit cheaper... So then I thought about getting a MacBook Pro, which I'm still considering but what I want to know, if I get it with Mac OSX Tiger how would I upgrade to OSX Leopard? Would it require me to buy the OS or does it update its self?

Thanks guys.

If you buy the MacBook Pro now you will have to pay the full retail price for Leopard when it is released.

The only way you can get a free copy of Leopard is if you buy a computer right after Leopard has been released and the computer does not yet have Leopard installed as standard.

There are no automatic downloads of major updates to the Mac OS, i.e you will not get a download of 10.4 to 10.5 You will get minor updates, e.g. 10.4.7 to 10.4.8 or 10.5 to 10.5.1

Saying "the full retail price" implies full version price. At worst, he'd have to pay the upgrade price.

Apple do not do upgrade prices, they only ship full retail versions, no updates.

Technically, these are all 'upgrade prices'...'cuz you're upgrading from the version that was shipped with your Mac. There are no 'full retail' versions (although I suppose you could consider them full versions.)

Exactly right, with the sole exception of the "Up-to-Date" program, which exists ONLY AFTER a new version of Mac OS has been officially shipped (that is, an official ship date announced).

Why don't you show us on the Apple website then wise-guy? Oh, and don't bother with that OWC upgrade package. I find that to be a bit dubious and question the legality of it.

Hey, no need to get snippy.

I already explained the situation. The Up-To-Date website is only online when the program is active, which is always just for a month or two after a new OS release.
