Hi All... My son just bought himself a Pro Mac - he uses something similar at school for a multimedia program he's in. When I heard the OS was unix-based I thought how cool is that... So I found and downloaded a freebie SSH client and logged onto his machine from my own. Voila! It IS unix. It even has vi! : ) The question is though, how does one go about compiling/running a C (and/or C++ i guess...) progam? I'm not looking to develop any killer apps as I do too much of that for a living... It's just been a long time since I've been on a Unix system and I just want to play around a little. Thanks for any help!!

You need to install the Xcode Tools. The latest version is 2.4 and available as a free download from http://connect.apple.com (registration required).

You might also like to take a look at Fink.

Yes it does but it's an older version. Either way it can't hurt to install Xcode from the DVD if all you need is GCC and not the bells and whistles of universal app development. And don't forget to install X11 if you haven't done so.
