Hi
I wanted to install OS X on my external drive, so I inserted my Tiger DVD and clicked to restart and install OS X only for it to get to the apple logo and spining logo then a big cicle with a cross through it appears. This has happened repeatedly and I have tried holding down C as well. I also had a couple of kernal panics but only when my external drive was plugged in. I checked panic.log and it seemed that it was related to firewire in some way. It still freezes with the circle with cross through it even without the firewire drive on or plugged in.

I have an iMac G5 with Tiger 10.4.7

Is this the disk that came with your iMac?

Just boot from your internal HD the regular way. Then open the install DVD in Finder and navigate to:

Install OSX/System/Installation/Packages/OSInstall.mpkg

Doubleclick this file, and install to the FW drive. You don't need to be booted from the install disk in order to use the installer.
