Here's what I bought in 2003:

Apple iMac, G4, 800MHz, SD RAM 1 GB, 80 GB HD, CD-RW/DVD-R superdrive, OSX 10.2.6
Apple Pro speakers
Belkin 4 port hub
Floppy drive (for my Sony Mavica camera)
Epson C42UX (printer for photos - it's a cheapie, but it was free)
HP DeskJet 5550 Ink Jet Printer
Epson Perfection 1660 Photo Scanner (can do slides and negatives too)
Norton System Works (lots of utilities)
Microsoft Office X (word processing, spreadsheet, email, powerpoint, and MSN messenger)

I'm still running with OX 10.2.6, because it works with all the freeware I've added on.

OK, now I'm feeling it's time to upgrade the software. My question is: Can I put OS 10.4.7 on this computer? Is there enough room? I'm thinking of spending about $500 to get an external HD (for backup), Roxio, Disk Warrior, and OS 10.4.7

Do you think I can do this with the iMac I have? And do I really need Disk Warrior?

Apple iMac, G4, 800MHz, SD RAM 1 GB, 80 GB HD, CD-RW/DVD-R superdrive, OSX 10.4.8

I have the same machine with only 768MB RAM and 10.4.7 works just fine.

I have Disk Warrior that I bought hoping it would help with a problem I was having with an external disk but it didn't do anything for me that Disk Utilility couldn't do. I also don't have Roxio (Toast I assume) and haven't found anything I can't do with the native burn tools.

As far as the space question, it depends on your free space. The 80GB drive isn't a limitation.

I was running my G4/400 tower on 10.4.7 with no problem. Your iMac outspecs it in every way.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for your quick reply. I really appreciate it!

Regarding Roxio Toast, I was going to get it because when I download
music to my computer, I can't seem to figure out how to burn a CD that
will play in a regular CD player. Am I missing something? Or should I
get Roxio?

Thanks again!

And thanks to everybody else who replied! It puts my mind a lot easier!

Import your songs into iTunes, create a playlist with 70-80 minutes of music. In iTunes preferences go to "Advanced" and click the Burn tab. Make sure Audio CD is selected. Close the preferences, select the playlist and then click "Burn Disk".
