imac buzzes on lhs after 10.4.8 - power manager problems ?

i updated my os to 10.4.8 and now i have this intermittent buzzing noise like a fan on the left ha front of the case , from trawling the net , i understand it's probably the cpu fan , could the 10.4.8 update be messing with the power manager again ?
