Mac OS X 10.3.9
Drive: 40 gig: 20 gig boot + 20 gig unallocated
How can I create another partition on that unallocated space?
Don't want to use any third-party software.
Thanks!

only by backing up and using disk utility (which destroys all data). that's the only way i know of to get another partition without using any 3rd party app

unless you got at least 10.4.6( in terminal type diskutil resizeVolume), you cant repartition without losing any data. Unless you do third party there's just no way.

That's a great tool, but it desperately needs a nice little GUI. Calling all freeware developers...

OK, installed 10.4.8
Thanks for the hint, but diskutil resizeVolume doesn't work with the drive OS was booted from either.
Anything else?

I'm not sure if it'll work, but if you download a PPC version of Ubuntu, you SHOULD be able to use gparted to create a new partition in that empty space. But I'm not sure, as I've never tried this on a PPC Mac.

I think another OS might count as third party software in this case.
