My mother just bought a new imac and tried to transfer her user accounts from her old mac. I got an email this morning saying that everything transfered except her address book and her safari bookmarks. I haven't used Migration Asst. for a while and I can't remember if these are separate options or if they should be transfered automatically if one chooses to move User accounts.

I fired up the Migration Assistant on my powerbook, but you need another mac connected to get to the point where you select the transfer options, so I can't really troubleshoot any further for her. I'd like to call her tonight to help her, but I want to be armed with as much info as possible. Can anyone help me out here?

BTW, she had to run the Migration Assistant after setting up her computer because she couldn't get her wireless keyboard to connect at first and Apple told her to bypass the setup initially to get that working. So she ran the Migration Assistant after having already set up a user account if that matters.

thanks,
kman

What OS was the old iMac running?

Address Book data and Safari bookmarks are both in her user/Library folder on the old Mac.

Tell her to go to user/Library/Application Support/Address Book to get her addresses. And then go to user/Library/Safari and grab the Bookmarks.plist file. She can then import those to her new iMac (copy them to USB drive, email them, burn CD, etc).

Hope it works out!

Apologies. I'm a beginner at this stuff. Until now, I have not had a computer that was 'mine', so I've always avoided some of the technical stuff. So this question may seem pretty elementary to you.

I'm upgrading from a G3 (OS 10.1) to the MacBook (0S 10.4.8). I followed the instructions and mailed the Address Book Data from the G3, but now what do I do? The file from the G3 has the name: 'Address Book.addressbook' and the MacBook file has the name 'AddressBook.data'. I'm tempted to trash 'AddressBook.data' and rename 'Address Book.addressbook', but I don't know what effect that will have.
