Google Earth and Google SketchUp are great. Got Skype yet? because calls within the US and Canada are free until year-end.

Maybe we should take a different approach here. There's a lot of good free stuff on the Mac. Some of it is ported from Windows or Linux, while some of it is original. But in any case, the first question is this: what do you want to do? Name something you're interested in, and we can probably find you something on the Mac to work with it.
You are in Soviet Russia. It is dark. Grue is likely to be eaten by YOU!

Go to Mac, Palm and Windows Software Updates and Downloads – VersionTracker and you will find more free stuff than you could ever want.

Quinn: Tetris game for OSX
Booksmart: Create a book (costs to publish, but cool to design photobooks or whatever)
iAlertU: Car alarm for your macbook (or whatever mac)
Growl: Notifier
Pandoraman: Listen to pandora (the free music service) on your desktop
CeltX: Write a screenplay
Slim battery monitor: Yeah, it's fun...
Smultron: Best text editor
App Update Dashboard Widget: Check for updates to your apps all in one lacation

Plus the stuff mentioned above. I like MacUpdate: Macintosh Software & Games better than version tracker, even though VT picks up some stuff MU misses. MacUpdate shows only intel stuff and you can easily filter free.

Quicksilver is an excellent application launcher. It does a whole lot more than that, but I couldn't possibly live without it.

There's a sticky thread about this in the Applications forum, where all application questions go.
