Why won't my icons stay where I put them?

I only have one icon on my desktop, it's the "HD" icon that came with it. I don't want it up in the top right hand corner of my screen because my dock is on the right side, but every time I restart the computer it goes back up to the top right hand side of the screen. I always have to end up putting it somewhere else.
It's not that big of a deal, but it's still annoying.
Thanks!

What are your view options set to on the Finder?
Finder > View > Show View Options
Also, you could hide the HD from showing up all together, so you have a nice clean desktop and then just access the drive from the dock.

HD icon goes there, according to the Law Of OS X.
a nuisance...
you could write (or find?) an applescript to move it where you want it, when you boot up.
but apple believes it belongs in the upper right corner...

I have 3 internal drives and 2 of them have multiple partitions so this is even more annoying for me.
Can you tell me more about this applescript solution. I have some very basic understanding of AS and no problem experimenting with it until I get it right.

How do you do this?

Finder > Preferences > General
Un-check "Hard disks" from the Show these items on the Desktop section...

Do as rickey939 suggests to hide the harddrive in the Preferences. The go to My Computer to see the harddrives. You can now make aliases of these on the Desktop (drag with command and option down). These aliases will stay in the position you drop them.
I also have the Dock on the right, but mine is small enough that it doesn't cover the HDs.
