my computer a powerbook G4 continues to deny access to virtually everything except netscape, hence how I am on. For example when I try to open AIM or appleworks or ect. The exact message is: The application "AIM" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "><AOL Instant Messenger (SM)><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_CarbonSound><>"

HELP PLEASE

The quicktime installation broke something. Try installing it again (if possible) or do an Archive and Install of OS X.

It will not allow me to re-install quicktime and I do not have a way of archiving since i do not have the reboot disk. I did do the cmdS at start up and did a repair run but no luck. any other options?

Can you open the terminal, located in the Utilities folder which is inside the Applications one? If so type the follwing at the prompt: sudo update_prebinding -root / -f and press return. when it has finishes type exit and press return. That might work.
