I have been reading alot of websites and downloading programs such as divx doctor 2, VLP, 3ivx D4 4.5.1 for os9 (even though im running osX), and a indeo video codec that i believe only works on OS9 can anyone walk me through getting these to play correctly?

I followed the instructions on the divx doctor and converted a avi file to a .mov and i hear sound but a script pops up that says "the required compressor could no be found".

.Avi files dont play at all quicktime opens and says "Quicktime is missing software required to display this movie file"

Please help i called Apple and the guy told me to upgrade to tiger for 129$ but i know people can watch these files on the Mac so why upgrade when all i need is a little guidance installing certain codecs and such.

I just wanna be able to watch The wire its killin me and i am gonna be stuck on this until weeds comes on tonight and takes my attention off of it but then its back to this and the mac websites just dont explain enough to help my problem.

didnt know where to post this.

Since you are on OS X try the OS X version of 3ivx instead of the OS 9 version. If it doesn't work open the movie in QuickTime Player, do Window->Movie Info and tell us what video codec the AVIs use that you can not play.

You should be able to play that with the 3ivx plug-in installed.

The VLC player will play just about anything, including xvid.

The Perian QT plugin allows nearly all files to play within QT, including xvid.
