Hi, I was just wondering if it's worth it to run Mac OS X Server on a home computer for home use. I'm just wondering if I'd run into any problems such as consumerish software simply not running on X Server, like games, or 3rd party preference panes.

You won't have any problems with software. As for whether or not it is worth it, what do you need Server for?

Just for the sake of having it, using it, and gaining bits of experience in the event that I ever want to apply for a job in the field of network administration (OR be able to set up a server myself without hiring a consultant!)

You can not install iLife, actually you can if you do some hacking.

You'll want to use a separate Mac for that for you to be able to actually learn anything. It's much better to have a server and a client to learn about a server OS as you tinker around with it.
