I'm downloading some jpegs from web, and a bunch land on top on my first hard drive icon on desktop. I thought that could not happen. that they had to, or be forced to land out side your hard drive icons.

Are you just informing us about the incident or is there some question implied that I don't get?

I think he's amazed at the activity occuring. But it's perfectly normal jeff k. The desktop attempts to neatly organize all the files/icons on your desktop, but when it runs out of room in i's grid, it just starts stacking them one on top of another. I find it silly but that's how it works.

"Clean Up" almost always stacks icons on top of each other for me. I also frequently forget this and have to use "Arrange By" to sort things out. OS X doesn't see any problem in having two icons stacked on top of each other, and I don't either. But you can't properly see them or read the titles, so it's not a very functional way for them to be arranged, and you should probably rearrange them to suit your preferences once you find them this way.

thanks Q, maybe it was an instance where room was running out, as I've been downloading a lot of jpegs.
