This is something I just haven't been able to find in Help, and it's bugging me. I want to change the default app for PDF files from Preview to Adobe Reader 7. (Reader 7 is much better than 6 ever hoped to be, and it offers a bunch of things Preview won't do, like allowing you to copy text from a PDF file...) Maybe I just haven't used the right search terms, but I can't find anything on it.

How does one change the application that opens a file?

Get Info > Open With > Change All.

Incidentally, you can copy text in Preview. Or at least I can.

Thanks, Chuck! When I tried to copy text from Preview, I wound up with a graphic that I could not paste into Word. That could be specific to the document I was copying, but that's beside the point.

Get Info on a file of the type I want to change is the key? GREAT! Thanks again!

You could also install this nifty little preference pane, which is a nice quick way to edit default apps for, as far as I can tell, every imagineable file type.
