On my new 24” Intel iMac, 10.4.8:
When I select: "Place scroll arrows at both ends" (via TinkerTool or Cocktail) the scroll arrows look and work as designed, except when I select: Place scroll arrows: together at both ends, then the scroll bar is missing in System Preferences/Sound/Sound Effects. To navigate through the Alert Sounds I must use the up & down arrow keys.
As you may have surmised, the scroll bar (with double arrows at both ends) works properly when booted in Safe Boot mode.
So I created a brand new/different "test" account, but the results are as above--selecting double arrows at both ends makes the scroll bar in Alert Sounds disappear.
If the problem were with a third party app/add-on, then the problem should not appear in a new/pristine account—I think.
Since the problem does not occur when I Safe Boot, I have now concluded the problem lies with some Apple extension or process that does not load during the Safe Boot, but does load during the normal start up. Does that make sense?
Even though I had previously installed the Combo updater, I did it again in desperation. No joy.
Zapping, Repairing Permissions, and running the full suite of TTP 4.5.1 tests also brought no joy.
Other than the apps migrated from my DP 800/10.4.8, no new apps have been added to my iMac. FWIW, my DP 800 does not have this problem, so I don’t think I migrated the problem.
This is hardly a major issue, but I am frustrated that I can’t solve it.
Guesses, musings, and suggestions warmly accepted and appreciated.
