I don't know what it's called... but on Windows, a folder is full of pictures. At the bottom of the window, there are tiny versions of the pictures. For the top 3/4ths of the window, it has the actual picture you have highlighted. I think... it MIGHT be called thumbnails. I'm not sure.

Does anyone know if there's a way I can do this?

In an open Finder window in icon view, hit Command - j. Or go to View -> Show View Options

Check the box to Show icon preview

There are also utilities that will add the thumbnail so it's always there. The above option causes the Finder to generate the thumbnails on the fly.
