I see that some people reinstall OSX wne they get a new Mac and then make sure tha textra language support is not selected....does this allow for more space on the hd? Is there a way to get rid of language support without reinstalling the whole OS? Also, if I go to Europe and I plop a DVD from there into my mbp, will the OS recognize the disk although it's not from America?

Thanks.

There is a program called Monolingual that will remove languages. Just be very careful with it. I used it and stripped my new MBP of all it's PPC libraries, thus rendering Rosetta useless.

Yep, just choose the "customize" tab and UN-√ all the ones you dont want. Do the same with the printer drivers you don't want installed too, that will save you even more space. You could even go so far as to not install any extra fonts, but that is a bit tricker, since you will hose your install if you remove any of the system-required fonts

The dvd thing depends on whether or not you get a region-specific-coded disc or not, and whether or not your dvd drive has the region-code restriction in it's firmware (more than likely it does). It may recognize it just fine, but playing it is another story altogether

Yes, a full install of OS X will put in about 1.1 GB of languages besides English.

P.S. Your signature is way too big. Check out the forum rules.

You should also un-check most of the printer drivers. That can save you upwards of 500 mb, if you know you're not going to be using a particular brand of printer.
