If this question doesn't belong in this forum, my apologies. Anyhow, the problem is as follows: Preferential Treatment reports about the preference called .com.nsoft.util.plist that the "stream has too few bites." Since I have no idea of what this particular prefence belongs to, I'm not sure it would be safe to delete it. Any suggestions would be welcome. Many thanks

What's Preferential Treatment?

Preferential Treatment is an intelligent and useful program that checks the status of both the user's and the system's preferences. Very useful.

Sounds like a nice little app; I'll have to try it out. The worst thing that can happen due to deleting a preference file is that you would lose some settings, so feel free to move or delete it if you wish.

Many thanks for the advice. I finally worked up the nerve to trash the offending preference file; ran Preferential Treatment again and found that it now reported no problems. So far at least, I can't see that getting rid of the file did harm to anythiing. Thanks again.
