Been having this wierd problem the past week or so.

After using my computer for a while, all non-Apple branded software programs crap out and don't work. For example, Word, Excel, Quicken, and Acrobat will no longer load when I click their icons. If I click one of their icons, it looks like it will load but nothing ever happens. I checked Activity Viewer and no processes seem to be created.

But the odd thing is, that all Apple programs like Mail, ICal, Itunes, etc. still continue to load fine.

Anyone have this problem before? Any suggestions?

I have a MacBook with 10.4.8

Thanks

Does this happen for all users on the machine? If you only have one, try creating a new account to test this.

Have you tried repairing permissions?

It could be that Rosetta crapped out, since all the apps you listed run in Rosetta. Try rebooting.

i believe i had this same problem, rebooting didn't help. it was definitely rosetta crapping out, so i ended up having to archive and re-install osx. fixed the problem and i was able to install microsoft office.

Does Console.app tell anything when you try to launch any of those apps?

Did you use Monolingual recently?

I had the same problem!
But in my case a simple restart fixed it!
Rosetta sounds logical to me since I never had this before on a non-Intel iMac.

What's the problem with Monolingual - is it not safe anymore?
Always worked without problems for me but I didn't use it yet on my new 24" iMac!
