For some reason, my screen lock doesn't work. It asks for a password at bootup, but even with settings to ask for a password exiting the screen saver - you just hit a key and poof, there's my desktop. Any hints or tips?

Thanks!

The Security preference pane is notorious for displaying incorrect settings, especially after system updates. If the "Require password..." box is checked, uncheck it, close the System Prefs app, reopen the System Prefs, open the Security pane, check the box, and close the app again. This has worked for me in the past to get the checkbox re-synced with the actual setting that is being used.

Thanks for the tip - unfortunately it didn't work for me. As a *ix nerd, this is one of the more unsettling parts of OS X. I wish I could go and flip the appropriate bit in the place where I *know* it'll do the trick. I'm at a loss as to how to fix this.
