K this is so weird i'm almost embarassed to post because the answer might be right in front of me......but. All of a sudden last night i could not send files or folders to the trash using CMD-Delete! I'm confirmed that the two keys work independantly on my keyboard, they just don't do what they should do together.

Don't be, it happened to me 3 weeks ago. Problem is, I just can't for the life of me remember how I fixed it. It was easy too...
I'll keep thinking about it.

Ok, I think this is what I did.
When I couldn't use command-Delete anymore I also didn't have "quit" for the Finder in the Finder menu.
I re-enabled Quit in the Finder with Tinkertool and then it all worked again.
Can you confirm that you don't have a Quit in the Finder menu?

I'm not in front of my G5 right now (where i'm having the problem) but am a little unsure what you mean. I don't remember the ever being a Quit option in the Finder menu. I just double checked and I don't have it on my iBook that I'm typing on now, but cmd-delete is working fine. I'll take a look at the G5 sometime tomorrow.
Thanks for the replies.

try holding down (Apple) + (Alt) + (Escape) force quit the finder (or relaunch)
good luck

I tried relaunching Finder and that did the trick. Incidentally, I also started to notice another finder related problem before doing the relaunch - I was unable to rename files. I would select the file name for editing in a Finder window but would be unable to type a new name. Very weird, I wonder what would have caused these problems.
Anyhoooo, all is well now. Thanks for the suggestion.

I've had these bugs along with a few other new bugs in the Finder lately (eg, copied or unstuffed folders to the desktop, but the Finder can't see anything in the folder, but other programs can what's in them).
Perhaps all these bugs were introduced with 10.4.8?
In all cases, force-quitting (relaunching) the Finder has fixed the problems for me every time they occur. Apple's quality control appears to have gone around the S-bend.

It's possible - I've never had these problems come up in the past.
