Couldn't figure out if this was OS X related, or application related.. so I put it here. Please move it if this is in the wrong forum.

Hello, I did some searches, and found ways to delete it, but now how to delete it. (they just said use terminal... which means nothing to me unfortunantly)

I have a file that came with my palm software. It is part of a package labled Palm Desktop, and is labeled Localized.rsrc

Origionally, when I tried to delete it, it said it was locked.. but it wasn't... but now when I try to delete it, it says it is in use. which it is not.

what can I do to force delete it?

thanks

you might try opening Activity Monitor to see if the palm software is running. Also, restarting your computer might help to [a] dump it if it's running and [b] allow you to delete it (provided it isn't a startup item).

Hold down the option key when choosing 'empty trash' in order to delete locked items.

Thanks for the replies!

Forgot to say that this is a file that I had on another computer, pt on a harddrive, and then moved to this computer because I wanted to format the harddrive. So it isn't even installed on this computer.

I did try restarting to no avail..

I'll do a search for "secure empty trash" not sure what that is, any tips?

Can anyone explain why that would have worked? I was under the impression that secure empty trash was just like zeroing a drive except it only writes zeros over that file instead of over everything.

I was also curious, I tried them one right after the other. FIrst I held down option and clicked empty trash and it still errored, then I went to the menu and hit secure trash and it got rid of it... doesn't really make since.

This is computer troubleshooting, it doesn't have to make sense as long as it works.

With all due respect, P-underline, it does matter to those of us wanting to understand things rationally, so as to be able to generalize that knowledge. I was curious as well about this for the reasons mentioned above.

I am curious but if you search the archives for the many times this has come up my solution is always one that gets the job done without making sense. Use stuffit to archive the trouble file with the option to delete original turned on and then delete the archive.

It's probably a bug that "Secure Empty Trash" does not check for locked files or files in use. It should do that, but as long as it doesn't it's a convenient troubleshooting suggestion for those stubborn files.

It's not a bug, it's a feature!

I was being ironic. Yes, to you it matters why. The OP is probably just happy that it does work. I have been spending hours recebtly trying to get a SATA DVD to work in a PC, and nothing helps. I really don't care why it doesn't work anymore as long as someone can MAKE it work, and I think most of us feel that way - by the time we post in a forum, we've usually banged our heads on the wall some time first.
