Hi All, this is definitely a "I feel dumb" question.

I'm still getting used to the keyboard and trackpad on my MBP 15". The keyboard is very stiff and my left thumb keeps brushing the trackpad while I type, and I suddenly saw my Network icon dragged out of a Finder window sidebar and poof away (so much for "ignore accidental trackpad input" in the Keyboard & Mouse System Prefs).

"No probs, I'll just put it back" I thought, but for some reason I can't: if I open a new Finder window, I can see the Network icon, but if I drag it to the sidebar under the hard drive, I get a "can't do that" icon (crossed out circle).

I use the Network icon all the time, I'd love to figure out how to put it back.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Chas

Wow, that *is* dumb that you can't just drag the Network icon back into the side bar. Anyway, click Finder (in the menu bar), Preferences, go the Sidebar section, and check off "Network" again. :-)

Incidentally, there's an option in System Preferences with which you can disable the trackpad while you're using the keyboard, to prevent unintended trackpad brushings in the future.

Hi Charles,

Yeah, I know about that (it's turned on). Funnily enough, I've _never_ had luck with that setting (ever since my Wallstreet Powerbook, if memory serves). Thanks for the pointer though.

Chas

ps. love the graphic in your .sig
