I recently purchased one of the new seagate 750gig drives and put in an external enclosure to use as auxiliary storage for my MacBook. Unfortunately it seems to exhibit exceptionally long eject sequences after being connected for a while. For example this morning when I went to take my MacBook to work it took >6mins, hung the Finder totally (and oddly enough Terminal as well) and eventually i had to yank it or be late for work. I'm concerned this may have something to do with Azureus since its downloading torrents to that disk but I haven't found any real evidence it is to blame. Has anyone else seen this? Is it normal these days for Mac OS to behave this way for external hard disks - it has been a while since I used one.

thanks.

I should probably add that its using the firewire interface but the box also has a usb interface which I may try out. Perhaps its just buggy firewire controllers. Still any input would be great.

Is it formatted with FAT32? I have a 200 gig FAT volume that takes longer than normal to mount and eject.
