I tried to do a search but did not come up with much pertaining to my question. I just purchased a MP and updated to 10.4.8 and I cant put my MP to sleep. I've narrowed it down to iTunes. It seems that once itunes has started - no sleep. In fact once I quit itunes the computer still can go to sleep. However if I start from a cold boot and never start itunes there's no issues with sleep.

Is there something in itunes that I need to turn off that keeps the MP awake?

* what I mean by "cant sleep" is that once I click sleep- the computer turns off as if going to sleep but then turns back on.

running itunes 6.0.5

There's the iTunes Helper process that runs in the background. If you kill that process, will it sleep?

Make sure you don't have any widgets for iTunes running either..let alone 3rd party USB/FireWire devices attached.

Funny you should mention that -I do. I tried the sleep function before starting itunes (with my belkin USB hub plugged in) an she went to sleep. Whats even more odd is that if I run the weekly cron command it sleeps. Very weird I'm miffed.

I disconnected all the inputs ( updated to to 10.4.8 +firmware) and still had problem with the MP going to sleep. So I did the same this AM AND unplugged the computer for about five minutes. So far it seems to have cured the MP's insomnia. Heres an apple tech do on it. I hope the fix stick and hope that any other MP owner will try this method.

Just an update the insomnia is back but Iv'e tracked it down to iTunes for sure. Quiting itunes allows the MP to sleep. Still miffed about this.
