It seems to have disappeared in Tiger. I used to use it quite a lot For many people it was the "most Mac" of fonts. I've searched the MacNN Forums and it doesn't seem that anyone has asked this. I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask or not, but here goes anyway.

Textile is one of the Mac OS 9 fonts, and was available in OS X because it lived in Classic.
Whether it's an Intel or PPC Mac, regardless of whether Classic is installed, you can always snag the OS 9 fonts from an OS 9 System Folder and drop them into OS X for use.

Thanks Tooki.
I looked on my OS 9.0.4 and OS 8 install disks and Textile isn't on either in the system folder there. Does the OS have to be loaded first and then you get it from the system folder?

Yeah, it'd be buried in the install packages somewhere.
Fortunately, the OS 9 installer was a lot more flexible than the OS X installer in terms of letting you choose "Custom Installation" and install just a single file rather than the whole OS, so you might be able to install just that font file. If the installer won't let you for some reason, you can probably find it in the "Installation Tome" files on the disc using TomeViewer.

Thanks, CharlesS--
I have os9 installed in SheepShaver to run on my Intel iMac (Core2Duo). Textile is installed there and I can copy it to my OS X volume. Font Book can see it but won't install it.
BTW, has anyone used SheepShaver on an Intel machine? It works great on my machine except that I can't get MS Office 98 to run. Anyone have this problem or have any ideas?

Update--I used a USB floppy drive on my old G3 desktop, copied the Textile font (in OSX) onto a Mac formatted floppy, hooked the USB drive up to my Intel iMac and bingo, it worked.

I realize this is rather late, but a mac TrueType version of Textile can also be found at the following path:
/Applications/iDVD.app/Contents/Resources/Fonts/Textile
(To get inside the iDVD application bundle, select it in the Finder, Control-click on it, and choose "Show Package Contents" from the contextual menu. Then navigate to the /Contents/Resources/Fonts/ folder).
Hope this helps....

Please don't dredge up threads that haven't had any activity in 6 months, even if you're trying to be helpful.
It's not good etiquette. And it's against the rules of the forum:

Well not to make old threads live even longer, but according to that Forum Rules post, that's "answer your question". He's answering one, not asking one. And in his case, I think its a valid extension of the thread.

Basically, if you revive a thread with something EVERYBODY thinks should be worthwhile, such as providing a definitive answer to an old and otherwise not as well answered question (as in this case), we tend to let it slide. The rules are not intended to shackle information, merely to make it easier for us to get and use that information.
And Person Man, "you" don't cut users slack, w mods do. As in this case.
