Unable to "Choose Folder" in Desktop System Preference Pane

Ok,
I open System Preferences and click on the Desktop Preference Pane. From the options menu I click on "choose folder" but nothing happens. Desktop Preference Pane will not let me choose a specific desktop picture folder, of which I have many. Anybody have insight on how I remedy this ??? I am running OS X 10.2.2 on my G3 iBook. Please help people
