Hello again everyone...

For some reason I cannot get the new Security Update to complete the install on my Mac. It gets to the 75% mark and then tells me to "Please try the install again". I've used Onyx to perform all the mantaince scripts, cleaning and to repair permissions, I even used the Disk Utility to repair the permissions but for some strange reason nothing works. And as a side effect everytime I go to install the update it screws with my Trash not allowing me to empty it, so I then have to go and do all the mantaince scripts and other repair to fix the Trash issue.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I would like to get this update installed!!

Did you try from the Software update preference pane? If so, you may try to download the update manually from http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...ientintel.html

The first attempt was from the Software Update plane but after that install errored out the update wouldn't show up anymore, so I had to download a cody from Apple's Support and have been trying to get the update to install properly from my hard drive.

You might want to try checking your disk for errors. Open Disk Utility and select your hard drive, then under the "First Aid" tab click "Verify Disk". If something is wrong, you will need to boot off the restore DVD that came with your MBP to actually repair the errors. Dunno if that'll fix anything, but it's worth a shot.

No, no...the joke is Security Update 2006-007 is installing, NOT. Sorry too much Borat for me.

I would try checking the disk for errors with Disk Utility. After that repair permission if anything comes up and shut down the computer. Start it back up and try installing the update again. Sometimes simply shutting the computer off and turning it back on fixes small glitches.

You might try opening the Terminal application and typing this at the prompt:
Code:
sudo softwareupdate -i -a
... followed by your admin password. Once in a while, bypassing the GUI can overcome hiccups like these.

I tried to repair the disk from the install DVD and as Aplle recommends but it errored out on me. Here's what it old me error was...
Checking HFS Plus volume
Checking Extents Overflow file
Checking Catalog file
Invalid Node Structure
Volume Checked failed

Error: the underlying task reported failure on exit

1 HFS volume checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error

So, I ran the fsck from the Terminal and this is what it said...
** /dev/rdisk0s2 (NO WRITE)
** Root file system
** Checking HFS Plus volume.
** Checking Extents Overflow file.
** Checking Catalog file.
Invalid node structure
(4, 1346)
** The volume Zeus needs to be repaired.

So, as I'm a Mac newbe could anyone tell me what this means?

Thanks again for all you help!

You need to fix your disk. First look at its S.M.A.R.T.-status to check that the disk itself is alll right ("verified").

If so you need to repair the file system structure. You can try running Disk Utility multiple times and hope it will fix it eventually. You can purchase a third party disk repair utility. Or you can backup to another disk and format it.
