I have a Macbook with the DVI-out adapter which I have connected to a monitor. Problem is I still have the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. I've tried moving it to a supported stretched resolution but it looks horrible, is there anyway I can mirror my desktop on my monitor without the annoying bars at the top and bottom? Anyone have any solutions? Thanks in advance for the help.

It sounds to me as though you have a non-widescreen monitor (in other words, it is a 4:3 rather than 16:9 ratio of width to height) and if that is the case then no, it is physically impossible to mirror your display without either stretching the resolution or having black bars. The only other alternative would be for the display to crop the screen image at the edges which would be non-functional.

Yes, the problem is that if your displays are different geometries, you cannot mirror them without one having blacked out areas.
