Software Update shuts down

While trying to use software update via the Apple menu the dock icon for checking for updates appears for a second or less and then goes away, also when I check via Sys Pref. it acesses Apple to check, says 'Software Update ran sucessfully' but then acts like its gonna show me the updates but then the dock icon goes away. ??? any ideas on how to fix this? also my Airport finder stus in the menu bar wont come on even after i check to show status in the Airport preferences!! HELP!!

Create a new user (admin) and see if it happens there. Chances are, it's a matter of corruption in your user account.

I tried that, repaired permissions, reset PRAM, deleted finder preferences.

Anyone know if there are Airport preferences I can delete?

That sucks! Try here: /Library/Preferences/com.Apple.networkConfig.plist. Trash it, restart.
