MY brother gave me his old powerbook G4 about 6 months ago, and a few weeks ago i turned it on and it tells me "some apps may not work correctly because date is before may 21st 2001 or something" the date was 12:00 december 31, 1969

so i called my brother and he said it was some sort of system crash, and to start saving files on isks and to reconfigure the computer somehow....does anyone know how to do this? Do I reinstall OSX or what? Please help

thankyou

You should be okay. The PRAM could have been reset, or internal battery is out. Worst case is the motherboard battery has died and you need it replaced. I'd keep the clock on "network time" in the event that you disconnect power in the meantime.

Nothing to be alarmed about.

Nah, it's just the mobo battery has died or is dying. No need to reinstall everything... just don't let it sit in a closet unused for 6 months again or this will continue to happen. No big deal either, just set the OS to synch with a time server and < 5 minutes after logging in all will be right with the time world.
