My dad recently upgraded from system 9 to OS 10.2, and after doing this, the monitor randomly will lose the signal, and the "no signal" will start flashing across the screen. It has got to be OS based, as it was fine prior to the switch to X. Any ideas?

Sounds like maybe OS X is attempting a resolution the monitor doesn't support?

Does this happen when he's using the computer or when it's been idle? If it's the latter, then it's most likely the computer setting the monitor to powersave mode and the monitor either doesn't support powersave mode or isn't turning off like it's supposed to.

Get onto the Apple support page and check for the latest firmware upgrade for the machine.

Do so immediately. Some machines require a firmware upgrade, else they'll be wonky under OS X. Using them with OS X anyway can fry them.
