Anyone know a fix that will stop this from happening?

ie: Machine is off, turn it on and log in to your account to notice dock setting are reverted back same as desktop and safari bookmarks are all back to when you got the machine.

Any way to retrieve the settings or not have that happen again? Nothing new was added or deleted

Did you rename your home folder? Are you using FileVault?

Repaired permissions? Tried trashing the relevant .plist files (i.e., ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist, ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist, ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist)?

How full is your disk? It may not be full now but it may have filled up before. Generally, the only way this can happen is either you renamed your Home folder or you ran out of disk space and the prefs got trashed.

Repairing permissions has nothing to do with home folders. Only files installed by Apple's Installer are checked by the Repair Permissions tool. All other files are ignored, including every file in a user's home folder.

Well after looking at the laptop it seems that her name didnt change or it did

ie: Bill Smith = name
billsmith = short name
User folder was = bill smith
new folder = billsmith

Why this changed I have no idea. She didnt change anything so I dunno. I basically made an admin account and got rid of the space so it booted back into her settings
