I want to run Open Office and Gimp on a new Mac Book Pro laptop with OSX 10.4.8.
I need X11 to do that. This seems to be a problem a few people have had so what is the solution? I do not have Mac OSX CDs.

you could just use neo office, no x11 install needed.

NeoOffice 2.0b3 - MacUpdate

If you have a new MacBook Pro, then you also have the system restore DVD. X11 is on there.

If it has been installed, X11 will be in the /Applications/Utilities folder by default. However, the version you can download is for OS X 10.3 (or was it 10.2?) and is not for 10.4 so the reason it is giving an error could be because it is not compatible with the OS rather than being already present.

To install it if it isn't present in your Utilities folder, you will need to use the CDs/DVDs that came with your Mac. It is one of the optional installs.

So I installed x11 from the optional install, and now I still cannot run Gimp. I get the same prompts. Also the bluetooth for the wireless mouse now does not work. I tried to reinstall the drivers(?) and it says I need OSX earlier version. Yes fresh batteries.
