FTP is listed in the Sharing Pref Pane. Is this really SFTP?

If it is really SFTP is there a way to it to use certificates for logging in rather than passwords? I have my home machine and my work machine set up with SSH keys that I use with rsync to backup my work computer and I'm wondering if I can use the same setup to easily (graphically) move files back and forth.

thanks,
kman

No, it's not. You have to enable ssh and presto. sftp is not really a protocol, sftp apps simply convert the `well-known' ftp commands via ssh into cli commands and it renders the output accordingly. If you have set up ssh to use certificates, it should work just fine via any sftp app.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

That's not actually entirely true. SFTP is a subsystem of SSH, and is a real protocol. See draft-ietf-secsh-filexfer-13.

So all I need to have turned on is Remote Login (SSH)? No need to turn on FTP as well, right?

No, you don't need to turn FTP on, and it's really better if you don't, because you'll be more secure with it off.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

I stand corrected.
