It comes up with a Folder with a question mark in it, what the heck???? ive been told its an input fault

Im stuck, the keyboard is a apple standard one but the mouse is a aftermarket one...

Ive used a different keyboard (used on windows pc) but still the same....

Any help much appreciated!!!

Sounds like the OS hasn't been properly installed. Please supply us with more details on the hardware and software setup.

it's related to the startup disk (OS).
It has nothing to do with the input (almost certain, but you could always unplug both the keyboard and mouse and turn on that mac, I'm certain the issue will come up again).

You may have to re-install the OS, or use the OS from CD/DVD and set the startup disk.
Do you have more than one system installed?

More specifically, what that flashing folder/question mark is saying is that it can't find a system folder to boot from. Either the install has corrupted, or the hard disk is having problems. First try repairing the disk using Disk Utility (or the OS 9 equivalent if that is what you have installed) when booted from the installer or software restore CD. To boot from the CD, hold the C key as you start up the Mac
