First time Mac users, just setting up the MBP 17" for the mother-in-law (MIL)... she's never even used a computer before. It's amazing there's even a Mac in the house (father-in-law (FIL) is a big-time MS user, and knows his way around that OS (as do I now with this #$* full-time gig using XP(!)), and brother-in-law works at said evil giant corp. ).
Anyway, macosxhints had the answer for maintaing a large font size:
Safari --> Preferences --> Advanced --> Universal Access --> √ Never use font sizes less than _.
There was a brief mention by the FIL that the mouse tracking was still slow. I'm going to let them borrow my Apple BT keyboard and (yuck) mouse, and see if that resolves anything, and is easier for them to use in general. Is there a solution for speeding up mouse tracking that's free? I wonder if I should setup a user account for my FIL separately, so he can tweak for himself, and have the default user (without login, gah, I can just imagine) for the MIL.
Are there any other setups I need to look out for for first-time users? You know, so they're not sitting there while I configure the thing going, "why didn't we get a Windows PC?"
I know the f-in-law wants to use Parallels, so I'll download that too so he can take it in and get setup by his IT department (it's nice being a boss to tell IT what you want and get it done), and get his VPN sw and such setup. He also uses Verizon on his Compaq; do they have an ExpressCard or equivalent? I don't know if he got the Wireless Access Point replaced at home yet, but probably…
Anyway, other pointers, ideas, pitfalls would be great.
Thanks,
io

Uh, I forgot to mention, I have to go over there in a few hours, so any suggestions, links, other boards to post, would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Verizon does have an expresscard attachment available for the Macintosh.

Iomatic, I'm sorry but you're a retard. It's not advisable to try and flip members of your own family, let alone in-laws. I can see this setting you up for failure, as they will always argue (particularly FIL) that it would have been better/easier/cheaper to get a Windows machine. As they say, good luck with that.....

The FIL is in love with the MBP. He's getting one for himself.
Who's sounding like a sorry retard now ?
Backstory: the MIL wanted a Mac. She wanted email, Web, etc., and since my wife uses an iMac, she wanted the same experience for lessons. Well, since the FIL got one for her, he hasn't let go of it since! Parallels was great; their IT person installed it and told me it was so easy, even from a non-Mac user perspective. He's been blown a way by the performance and overall experience. They're pretty stoked so far.
