Mac & Windows CD/DVD authoring compatibility?

Simply, will CDs and/or DVDs burned on Windows work on Mac
(or vise-versa)?

I want to transfer large files across both platforms.

In general, yes
Assuming the files themselves are cross-platform compatible, the easiest way is to burn an ISO9660 image onto the disk. Nearly all macs & peecees can open/read/create ISO images.

But depending on your burning app & the actual file types, some are easier than others and have more options available, like Toast vs. the Finder
Signatures are ugly. Bitchy women are ugly......YOU do the math :)
