Hello, I am currently running 10.4.8 on my G4 Powerbook 867mhz, 1.12GB Ram, 100GD HD, and it is running painfully slow, is there another OS X Version that would speed up my old friend? Or is there something else I can do to speed it up?

There is no other version that will be much faster - how much free space on your primary hd? If you are close to full, cleaning at least 20% off will help a little. Did it used to be faster, or are you just fed up with the speed it's always been?

well its always been slow.
I usually have about 8 GB free space,
I usually have Mail Safari Adium and Skype always open,
which for me doesnt seem like a lot of applications running and even then I get the beachball while just surfing the web, and having to wait for the beachball to go away while surfing is just annoying...

That's your problem I think, you need to have more than 8 GB free. Something to do with virtual memory I think. Your powerbook should be able to run Tiger just fine, and you've definitely got enough RAM.
Open the Activity Monitor and see what programs are using. I think some versions of Skype have had memory leaks and always take up the cpu. The same with Safari, it has a memory leak. Try quitting it more often or search this forum for tips on making Safari run faster.

skype and adium take up only 30MB of Memory each, but Safari bloated up 270MB, so I closed it and reopened. Would you suggest using Camino or Firefox?
I also freed up some disk space and have 12GB now.

I don't see why he would need to have more then 8 GB of free hard drive space for his system to run at optimal levels. I've run well below that (under 1 GB) on my iBook without noticing a performance hit.

Yeah, Safari has some nasty memory leaks that you won't find in Ff or Camino. If I were you, I'd be sure to either restart Safari every so often, or just switch to Camino.
