When I turn on my iMac (running Panther 3.9) I get a small square box about an inch on all sides with a globe in it. It blinks and then gets smaller and turns into the finder smiley-face. This gets smaller and smaller, then I get my login screen. This takes about 10 minutes and is really obnoxious. How do I get this to stop? Any help would be much appreciated!

Check your startup disk preferences in System Preferences. Make sure you have you Macintosh HD set as startup disk. It sounds like it might be set to network boot now.
