I'm attempting to upgrade my laptop from 10.4 to 10.4.8, using the combo installer. All seemed to be going smoothly, until we got to "finishing installation," where it's now been for quite some time. In fact, I know have the SPOD.

Any tips? It's just spinning merrily away. I'm wondering what will happen if I force quit or restart the laptop (12-in PB; rev A). All in all, I'm not too pleased...

Well, I did a hard restart and after an incredibly long startup -- had to leave the room, it was taking so long -- it's up and running. It's pretty slow, but I'll repair permissions next and hopefully that will help. Very strange...

The combo updater requires two restarts, IIRC. The first one will take a very long time, so maybe you just didn't wait long enough.

That's a possibility. It was, as I said, just sitting there at "finishing installation," with absolutely no movement whatsoever.

All is, on the surface, OK. I booted into single-user mode today and went the "fsck" route. All was fine. Today everytime I signed in to my name/account, it was as though the machine had rebooted and was starting over. If I still have problems later, I'm just going to reinstall. It's really probably the only time I've had trouble with an install, so I supposed I've been lucky up to now.
