So, Mac OS has this incredibly annoying little feature where when I'm using this USB mouse to substitute for the trackpad, it will restrict the cursor's movement if I'm moving it below a certain threshhold of speed. This is really getting on my nerves, because it makes gaming impossible.
Please don't just suggest I use the trackpad. It's the whole reason I'm trying to use a mouse.
And just in case, it's not the mouse: my Windows computer has no problems with it. I believe this to be an issue with OS X.

Look up "Mouse Acceleration" and then choose a method for disabling mouse acceleration, appropriate for the USB mouse you have.

USB Overdrive lets you control the acceleration curve, along with a lot of other stuff.

Show me a feature designed to improve the computing experience, and I'll show you a herd of gamers that want to disable it. Second on the USB Overdrive suggestion - it's the most powerful of similar utilities.

What brand are you using? Most mice come with their own software that gives you more control over things like mouse acceleration. Otherwise, USB Overdrive is a great alternative.

Well, this is a school laptop that I can't instal software on, so I was hoping for a solution solely within OS X, but I can probably BS a story good aenough to get permission to install it.
