Lucky me, my MBP is giving me a kernel panic at the login screen, however it will boot if I try to start in safe mode.
So far I've tried the following: - Zapped the PRAM
- Removed RAM and tried to reboot
- Removed all my login intems
- Removed all the items from the startup folder
Here's the panic log:
Code:

Just a thought.
Since you have that backtrace to com.cisco.nke.ipsec, I'd start with getting rid of your Cisco VPN client. Check out >>this thread<< for information on how.

Interestingly enough I did two things to "solve" the issue (I hope its solved at least):
- Removed Album Art Thingy from my Login Items. When I added-->kernel panic, removed-->normal boot.
- Removed the "Paralles" directory from /Library/StartupItems. Same as with Album Art Thingy, when its there it causes kernel panic. When removed it does not.
It looks like Parallels with the VPN client may very well be the culprit according to the post you linked to. Interestingly Parallels wasn't running at the time of shut down.
