Any time I delete a file on my MacBook CD running 10.4.8, the OS immediately deletes it instead of just moving it to the Trash. This behavior is abnormal, and I don't know how to change it.

Any help is appreciated. I posted here b/c this seems more an OS behavior, rather than anything specific to a piece of hardware.

Probably your Home/.Trash folder is either owned by root... or is missing entirely.

If restarting doesn't help... I would whip out Terminal and start listing stuff.

It doesn't show up when I use 'ls' in the terminal for my home folder, and restarting doesn't help.

I assume this means it's missing. Does anyone know how I recreate it? I tried creating a new folder named .Trash in the home folder, but the system tells me that name is owned by the system.

Actually, ls doesn't show files beginning with a dot unless you use the -a flag. Try using ls -al and you should be able to see the folder and its permissions.
