I want to reinstall my Tiger OSX and I have inserted the disc but the Powerbook does not boot. It shows the apple sign and the round lines as if it is loading, but the round lines suddenly stop and nothing happens. What can I do?

Did ou select the CD as the startup disk in System Preferences?
Is the CD readable otherwise?

You don't have to select the disc in the Startup Disk pane. I recommend against doing that because the computer will not automatically reselect the hard drive after the installation is finished; that will stall the reboot startup process for a minute or so with the world icon (netboot) showing. Instead, just hold the C key at startup to boot off the disc.

It sounds like he is getting it to boot off the disc but then it's failing. It could be a bad disc.

Sorry guys, my mistake. I had inserted the cd from a Mac Mini. Here at my workplace we have all the cds for 18 Macs (among which are Powerbooks, Mac Minis, Power PCs, iMacs.....) in 1 closet .
So I rechecked the cd and it was not for the Powerbook, I had to go in another closet to search for the Powerbook box where I found the right installation discs.
So, problem solved. Too bad I wasn't able to figure later that the cd was not the Powerbook's, the computer was just stoping at startup during boot.

Thank you for your help anyway.
