I'm trying to install Java Release 5 on my Intel iMac, but with absolutely no success! It didn't work with Software Update so I tried a direct download from the Apple website. I was able to umpackage the DMG file, click on the Package file to initiae the install process, and all seemed to be going well until the very end when I received the following error: There were errors installing this package. Please try installing again.

I have absolutely no clue what might be causing the problem, so I don't know how to fix it. Any help would be appreciated. My Intel iMac specs are as follows:

Machine Model: iMac5,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
Memory: 2 GB

In the installer, click Window:Installer Log. Post the relevant bits (probably at the end) here.

Run disk utility and see if your hd is corrupt at all. That, and you can repair permissions while you're at it.
