When playing movies on my mac, I get the message "play from beginning or from last play" to select from. Where is the log file or whatever the file that records what movie has been played that does this so I can delete this? My guess apple gets a copy of this file and is able to track what people watch. tnks

I really doubt they do that.

FrontRow keeps track of it in its preferences file ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.frontrow.plist and DVD Player keeps track of it in ~/Library/Application Support/DVD Player/Settings.
I don't think Apple is collecting this data.

Unless they've integrated the data collection into another application, I've never had DVD player ask me (via Little Snitch) for an internet connection ever.
I don't think you have anything to worry about. However, if you insist, TETENAL has the file paths you need.

After finding out about the itunes fiasco, don't trust apple on anything else. Who knows what happens when you click software update besides apple checking your software versions. Those log files are not that big and can be easily uploaded. Microsoft got caught sniffing information years ago similar to this. Thanks for the info.

iTunes fiasco?
I agree that Apple should NOT (by default) send the song info back to Apple, but this is far from a fiasco IMHO. All you need to do is turn off the MiniStore and no information is sent back to Apple.
IMHO, Apple is NOTHING like Microsoft regarding this... Microsoft has proven, time and time again, that they just don't think or care about the vast majority of their customers... especially at the home users.

I believe that any company that doesn't tell you up front that there software phones home or send information back to the company for marketing purposes is a company I cannot fully trust. If they do it once, what's stopping them from doing it again? I just want to know up front and have the option of letting this happen or disable the feature. Microsoft got nailed again with there software verification tool that phones home even if you elect not to install it. You would think they could nab the pirater by waiting until they try an update and track the ip address of the pirated software.
