In my Library>Preferences file, I have noticed that almost all of my com.apple files are listed as Mail Documents under KIND. Obviously that is not correct and I have no idea how it happened. I have sporadic problems with certain apps (esp GarageBand) and am wondering if this could contribute.

1. How could this have happened?

2. How do I fix the problem?
