Hi,

I'm fairly new to OS X. I was looking in Activity Monitor and I see mount_ftp running by default. I am 100% positive I did not start it myself. Is this enabled by default? And am I correct in assuming this is an ftp daemon? Or is this for mounting a remote directory as a local one, like an ftp client?

It does exactly what it sounds like: mounts an ftp share. This may be what the Finder uses to mount FTP drives.

The latter, although the Finder only supports read-only access to FTP shares (which is a good thing).

I hope Apple adds SFTP/SSHfs support in the Finder in 10.5 and leaves FTP crippled so that it stagnates.
